On Saturday, September 26 the Lincoln Academy Cross Country team (LAXC) participated in its first regular season meet of 2020 hosted by Medomak Valley High School. Due to COVID restrictions, meet size and team sizes were limited. Eleven boys and eleven girls competed for Lincoln while two boys and eight girls competed for Medomak. Both Lincoln squads won the team competitions, first-year runners ran strong races, and a number of returning team members ran personal best times. While spectators were not allowed at the meet, the races were streamed live on Lincoln Academy's Facebook page and can be found here. A Flickr photo album from the day is available here. Complete results are available here. Detailed results including split times and comparison to previous performances at Medomak for returning team members are provided below.
Eleven team members completed their first high school 5K race including Audrey Hufnagel and Adeline Hall who led the way for the girls team and Nick Russ who finished third for the LA boys team. All but one team member who ran posted a faster two mile split in this longer race than they did in last week's two mile time trial. Five returning team members ran personal best times this year including Cedar Cannon who dropped 1 minute and 52 seconds from his previous 5K best, Will Sherrill (-1:13), Margo Fairfield (-0:19), Aiden Jacobs (-0:13), and Liam Card (-0:05).
The “Biggest Loser” is the team member who drops the most time from one year to the next on the same course. This week’s Biggest Loser is Cedar Cannon who dropped 3 minutes and 6 seconds from last year's Medomak meet. Other contenders were Will Sherrill (-2:10), Margo Fairfield (-2:00), and Liam Card (-1:46). Thaddeus Eddyblouin (-0:18) and Clara Goltz (-0:05) also shaved time from last year's times.
Thank you to Lincoln Academy Communications Director, Jenny Mayher, for livestreaming the race, LAXC Alum Super Mom Cindy Allen for making cookies and goodie bags for all team members, and Matt Lash, George Gould and the team at Medomak Valley for being such great meet hosts.
