Track and field is a team sport that is fun, opens new doors, and gives everyone a chance to participate and improve. The culture and success of Lincoln Academy track and field has been built over time thanks to the dedication and hard work of past coaches and team members. As a current team member you are expected to continue that tradition by supporting your teammates; by holding yourself and your teammates to standards of excellence in the classroom, at practice, and during competitions; and by finding a proper balance between hard work and fun so that you can reap the benefits that cross country offers and enjoy running as a lifelong pursuit.
Ultimately, the success of the team hinges on the participation of all team members in practices and meets. Team members are strongly encouraged to anticipate and avoid potential conflicts as early as possible. Team members planning to take drivers ed should plan to do so during the summer or after the fall sports season has ended. Team members who wish to take on additional extracurricular activities during the season should do so with caution and in consultation with Coach Martin to minimize conflicts.
As a member of the Lincoln Academy Track and Field team you are expected to:
Support teammates and actively work to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive team and school community.
Demand excellence from yourself and your teammates in the classroom, at practice, and in competition. This includes attending all practices and meets.
Always strive to find a need and fill it, at practice and meets, in school, and in life in general. This includes taking responsibility for individual and team gear and finding ways to pitch in before being asked.
Be the loudest team at competitions always. This includes supporting your teammates and competitors when you are not competing.
Prioritize sleep as the most important activity you pursue to help you achieve athletic and academic success.
Engage in social media wisely and recognize that anything you post reflects on you, this team, and the LA community. Do not taunt teammates or our competitors online or in person.
Have fun and work hard. This includes bringing a positive attitude to practices and meets and finding a balance between team, school, and personal commitments.
Set lofty goals and enlist the support of others to help you achieve them.
Communicate effectively with teammates and coaches and address concerns or conflicts that may arise directly with a focus on crafting shared solutions. This includes notifying coaches in advance of any scheduling conflicts with practices or meets.
