Coach Martin is a lifelong runner who vividly remembers beating his dad at a road race in his hometown of Staunton, Virginia and getting hooked on racing in 6th grade. In 2015, he started coaching cross country and track at Lincoln Academy growing the cross country team from 18 to close to 60 team members.
As Head Coach, Coach Martin is committed to meeting the individual needs of each team member while also building a supportive and inclusive team culture where anyone who is willing to do the work can improve and succeed. While several LA runners have gone on to run in college, he is most proud of those team members who have developed a lifelong love of running and are constantly seeking to leave their school, community, and world a better place than they found it.
Coach Martin was selected as the Maine State Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2017 after the LA Boys won Class B states for the first time in 72 years. He is also a nine-time recipient of KVAC Coach of the Year honors thanks to the success of LA teams that won KVAC championships during those years.
Coach Martin ran cross country and track at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he specialized in the steeplechase and has relied on running to get to know places near and far from Lincoln County having worked or studied (and run) in India, Ecuador, Japan, Guatemala, England, Russia, and the Mississippi Delta before settling in the midcoast. He holds a master's degree from Princeton University and is the president and CEO of the Maine Center for Economic Policy in his day job. His wife, Jenny Mayher, is the Communications Director at Lincoln Academy and his daughter, Essie, and son, Josiah, both ran cross country at LA and graduated from Bates and attend Tufts respectively.
Coach Boutin tried track and cross country in middle school, and was excited by the chance to learn– about the places she ran, the people she ran with, and her relationships to these places and to herself. Upon joining the cross country team at York High School, she discovered a group of inspiring, supportive, strong and hilarious teammates, coaches, and the Maine running community. (Fun fact: Monique’s high school coach, Candace Jaffe, first coached at Lincoln Academy).
Coach Boutin is grateful for the chance to support young people in a sport and community that has given her such friendships, learning opportunities, personal growth, and joy. Monique ran cross country and track at the University of Maine, focusing on the 5k. She has since continued to fall in love with trail running, especially with her dog, Louis. She has coached at Acadian Running Camp in Bar Harbor, ME, since 2011, and previously coached running at Chewonki Elementary and Middle School in Wiscasset.
Monique holds masters degrees from Purchase College, SUNY, teaches Art at Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, and is an artist and part-time oyster farmer with her husband, Luke, on the Sheepscot River in Wiscasset.
Coach Boothby (aka Coach Mary or Mary) didn’t start running until much later in life…35! She attended Lincoln Academy, graduating in 1993. She played some tennis in high school but mostly wanted to be on stage singing musicals. Once she started running, though, it quickly became one of her favorite ways to explore the trails in midcoast Maine.
Mary’s family has owned Granite Hall Store since she was 7 years old. She and her sister Jane Frost now run the store and every summer employ a lot of local teens - runners and nonrunners alike. Mary lives in Bremen with her husband, Tom (a woodworker) and two daughters who both went to school at Lincoln. They have many pets including a tortoise and lots of chickens!
She’s super excited to be volunteering with the team, getting to know this great group of kids and spending more time with the LA runners who help her scoop ice cream all summer.
Coach Fake has loved being active outside all his life. He grew up running, hiking, canoeing, skiing, and sailing on the coast of Maine, and he is excited to foster a love for an active lifestyle in the next generation.
Coach Fake graduated from Lincoln Academy in 2015. He attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where he ran cross country and enjoyed exploring the city on foot. With teaching experiences in Estes Park, Colorado, and Belfast, Maine, Coach Fake has come full circle, returning to Lincoln Academy to teach Social Studies. He is excited to help build communities where students can grow both inside and outside the classroom. When not coaching or teaching, Coach Fake can be found enjoying the outdoors with his faithful canine companion.
Coach Combs has been running for the past 25 years and has competed across a spectrum of surfaces and distances (from the 100 meter on the track up to the 100 kilometer on trails) with varying success (he is generally most comfortable on the track running the 1500 meter).
Coach Combs began competing in cross country and track while in high school and continues to run and compete to this day. He ran collegiately while at Bowdoin College as well as post-collegiately for a number of programs, including Central Park Track Club.
Coach Combs joined the Lincoln Academy Track & Field team in the spring of 2023 as a distance running coach and is thrilled to continue coaching with the boys and girls cross country teams. As a coach, he aspires to develop new and experienced runners into strong, confident and intelligent team mates and competitors.
Andrew lives with his wife, two children, two dogs and cat in Newcastle. Professionally, he has worked as a management consultant and most recently in the healthcare technology space. He holds an AB from Bowdoin College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
As a kid, Coach EddyBlouin spent more time on his bike and swimming than on his feet. In the Navy he swam a ton and at that time had to be forced to run. Since then, he continued running purely for exercise. While John did compete in 1 marathon in the early aughts, he found his place 10 years ago when he competed in his first relay race from Bar Harbor to Portland. Since then John has continued running with friends in the relay format and added in ultramarathons.
Since 2008, Coach EddyBlouin has proudly worn the title of LA dad. So far, 4 of his 7 kids have run for LAXC. What started as an opportunity to connect with his own children has transformed into a way to tap into the great energy of this wonderful group of kids as well as the enthusiasm and coaching knowledge of the coaching staff.
When he's not coaching or conquering ultra races, John lives in Bristol and works from home as a Systems Analyst at a healthcare software and services company. You can see him running all over Lincoln County and beyond, with or without accompanying high school athletes.
